Session Meeting Highlights from December 2007 and January, February, and March 2008: ● Approved 5 church use requests ● Elected Nancy Sites to serve as Elder Commissioner to the February meeting of Shenandoah Presbytery at Lexington ● Approved the 2008 Budget ● Elected Kimberly Kline as Clerk of Session, Lula Belle Kline as Treasurer, and Virginia Byers, Charles Sites, Jr., and Patricia Sites as counting assistants ● Appointed new committee chairs: Nancy Sites (worship and music), Mary Lea McCoy (fellowship), Rita Kickert (congregational care/visitation), and Mike Hammer and Eric Glover (finance and stewardship co-chairs) ● Authorized Christie Hand to investigate the feasibility of a group tour to Oberammergau, Germany in 2010 for the Passion Play ● Invited Dr. Homer Cornish to present the church’s Heifer International plaque in March ● Prepared the annual statistical report for the church, with active membership of 131 ● Revised the Church Use Policy ● Presented the Session Minutes book for review of the 2007 minutes and received the report of the Sessional Records Committee that the minutes were approved without exception ● Approved vacation leave for Rev. Hand for February 18-25 to attend his father’s birthday in Washington State ● Approved the purchase of a new copier and maintenance agreement from Queen City Business Systems ● Approved the purchase and installation of new thermostats for the church to better control the heating/cooling system ● Approved setting up the memorial fund for Kenneth Harper to collect donations for purchase of a new sanctuary piano ● Approved pulpit exchange for Rev. Hand and Will Vaus for Sunday, April 20 to enable Circleville and Seneca Rocks to celebrate Holy Communion ● Statistics for the quarter: 2 births 1 death 0 marriages 0 baptisms 1 member received 1 member transferred
Session Meeting Highlights from September, October, and November 2007: ● Examined Steve and Rita Kickert and Shirley Wimer for membership in the church by reaffirmation of faith ● Approved 6 church use requests ● Called a congregational meeting to elect a nominating committee to search for elders to serve on the Session Class of 2010, elected Robert Schlaegel and John Michael Jenkins to represent the Session on the committee, and appointed Mr. Schlaegel as chair. ● Invited Dr. Homer Cornish to act as pulpit supply in October and speak concerning Heifer International ● Invited Sean and Bethany Walker to speak in October concerning their mission work in Tajikistan ● Made tentative arrangements with Sonny Watts to install the handicap ramp into the basement in the spring ● Elected Nancy Sites to serve as Elder Commissioner to the November meeting of Shenandoah Presbytery at Mt. Horeb Church in Grottoes ● Approved a special offering in June 2008 for Living Waters for the World ● Contracted with the Olan Mills company to produce a new church directory in the spring ● Set dates for Holy Communion for 2008: February 3, March 20, March 23, May 18, July 6, October 5, and December 24 ● Appointed Pat Sites to fill Robert Schlaegel’s slot on the nominating committee, and appointed John Michael Jenkins to serve as chair ● Approved vacation leave for Rev. Hand for December 25 through January 1, with Will Vaus agreeing to supply the pulpit for the 5th Sunday Unity Service at Franklin on December 30 ● Called the annual congregational meeting for December 2 to elect elders to serve on the Session Class of 2010, and one to serve an unexpired term in the Class of 2008 ● Statistics for the quarter: 1 birth 0 deaths 1 marriage 0 baptisms 3 members received 0 members transferred
Session Highlights – June through August 2007 ● Adopted revised job duties for church custodial position ● Approved tuning of basement piano ● Approved DSL Internet access for the church office, since it is now available from Verizon ● Hired Cathy Dowdy to serve as the church custodian, following recommendation from the interviewing committee ● Approved 2 church use requests ● Approved replacement of the manse windows by Jesse Eckard with more energy efficient windows ● Approved replacement of the remaining church basement windows (that were not replaced during the basement remodeling) by Jesse Eckard ● Voted to seek another party to construct the basement handicap ramp, since the original party has made no progress in getting the work done ● Invited Sean and Bethany Walker to speak about their mission work in Tajikistan in October ● Determined that interest was sufficient to compile a pictorial directory of church members, which will take place in the spring ● Approved purchase of new learning materials for use with Children’s Church Membership Statistics for the Quarter: 1 marriage 0 baptisms 0 births 1 death 2 membership transfers to another church Holy Communion observed 3 times (June 3, June 20, August 26) Receipts for May, June, and July: $19,143.54 Disbursements for May, June, and July: $17,866.75
